Reduced Recurrence Rate after a Three Week Clindamycin for the Initial Lower Limb Cellulitis

Cellulitis is a common bacterial skin infection that in > 70% of all cases involves the skin of the lower extremities. The disease typically presents as a tender, rapidly expanding inflammatory area with a variable degree of systemic manifestations. Presently the term ‘cellulitis’ will be preferred over ‘erysipelas’ to interchangeably designate all laterally spreading skin infections with above characteristics that affect either exclusively the uppermost part of the dermis (‘erysipelas’) or extend also in the deeper dermis-subcutis tissue layers (‘cellulitis’).
Possible Correlation between Self-Reported Sensitive Skin and Physical and Chemical Biomarkers

We conducted a study to evaluate the urogenital skin environment of pre-menopausal and post-menopausal women. Differences in biomolecular and physical measures of urogenital skin sites are reported in a separate publication, however, compelling observations on self-perceived sensitive skin, in light of the differences observed in the measured biomarker and physical parameters, prompted this brief communication. Women enrolled in the study included; 15 pre-menopausal (Pre-M), 15 post-menopausal receiving no form of hormone replacement therapy (Post-M Non-HRT), and 15 postmenopausal receiving HRT (Post-M HRT).
Association of Inflammation-related Genetic Variants with Melanoma Development and Progression

The role of inflammation in melanoma development and progression has not been fully elucidated. This study was aimed at determining whether previously identified inflammation-related genetic variants are associated with melanoma risk, clinical and pathologic measures of disease severity, or patient outcome, and might therefore contribute to the risk of development or progression of melanoma. We analyzed 11 single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) associated with inflammatory biomarkers that reached genome-wide significance of P<10-8 in previously reported studies. All SNPs included in the analysis were genotyped or imputed in The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center melanoma case-control melanoma dataset.
TONS504-Photodynamic Therapy Against Trichophyton mentagrophytes Infection: In vitro culture and In vivo Animal Model Study

Despite the presence of various topical and systemic antifungal agents, few reports of photodynamic therapy (PDT) are available. In order to determine the antifungal effect of PDT, In vitro and In vivo analyses against Trichophyton mentagrophytes (T. mentagrophytes) were performed. T. mentagrophytes were cultured In vitro and also inoculated on the plantar skin of guinea pigs. They were irradiated with a diode laser of 670 nm in the presence of a novel cationic photosensitizer, TONS504. TONS504-PDT showed antifungal effect against T. mentagrophytes both In vitro and In vivo.
