Background: Health facility-based provider and client-initiated HIV testing and counselling (HTC) strategy is the globally used strategy. However, in Tanzania, 85% of eligible individuals have not been able to test for HIV to date. It is for these reasons, alternative strategies using community-based HIV testing and counselling (CBHTC) approaches was adopted.

The HIV/AIDS menaces has had adverse effects among the inmates. The conditions contribute to hastening the progression of HIV and deterioration in the health of prisoners living with HIV/AIDS. The prisons literally comprise of a section of marginalized society that is at high risk in terms of nutritional imbalance due to lack of diet diversity.
